Course Guide
The History of Belmont Golf Course, and a detailed Course guide

Introduction
Opened in 1983, Belmont Golf Course is an established golfing venue in a spectacular setting

Situated alongside the River Wye Belmont Golf Course offers a stunning setting whilst conveniently located close to Hereford.

With lovely views to the Brecon Beacons from the top nine, to the challenge of the River on the bottom nine, this 6,369 yard (White Tees), par 72 course offers the kind of variety and challenge that todays golfer is looking for.

The Course opened in 1983 (read more about the history of Belmont) and since then has matured into a spectacular and well established golfing destination serving both local members and visitors from near and far.

The 6369 yard Par 72 Course (off the White tees) with its five Par 5's and eight Par 4's (ranging from 319 yards to 467 yards) is designed to test both the high and low handicap player. The first nine mostly takes the higher ground whilst the second nine runs alongside the River Wye. Many – especially those with a tendancy to slice the ball – find the second nine the harder as the river comes into play on at least five of the holes!

The Golf Course's parkland setting, the River Wye, the wealth of lovely mature trees together with some more recent plantations which are now approaching maturity are not only a delight to view but also ensure an interesting yet fair challenge. Whatever your standard of golf you will enjoy the natural contours of the fairways and picture postcard scenery. Couple this with the lush undulating fairways, only found where grassland has been continuously growing undisturbed for centuries, the well drained greens, the ever present River Wye and you have the perfect recipe for a great day of golf.

The Front Nine
Taking in the higher ground; here you have magnificent views over the surrounding Herefordshire Countryside.

To the West one can see the famed Black Mountains, to the East, looking over Belmont House itself, is Hereford City with the Cathedral – famous for it’s Chained Library, the Three Choirs Festival and the home of the Mappa Mundi – clearly visible. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Malvern Hills. South, if you have time, you can stop to admire the rolling open farmland as your eyes take you down towards Abergavenny with South Wales beyond. Northwards you will catch glimpses of the River Wye, against the backdrop of Breinton Woods, as it finds its way down from Hay-on-Wye and the Mountains of Mid-Wales.

The Back Nine
Set down in the valley alongside the River Wye

This land forms part of the plain carved many centuries ago between the escarpments of Belmont and Breinton as the River Wye fought its way down through Herefordshire and eventually out into the Bristol Channel at Chepstow. Many find this the harder of the two nines as the river can come into play on at least five of the holes. Add to this some well placed mature trees and you may well find that it is better to rely on accuracy rather than length. The choice is yours, but rest assured you will enjoy the natural contours of the fairways and the picture postcard scenery.
